The RAF Trade Group 11 Association

The RAF Trade Group 11 Association was founded on 15th March 2008. The Primary objective of the Association is to have an annual Reunion for its members. The website acts as a database of members and an archive for TG11 Photographs
Eligibility for memberships comprises the trades of Telegraphist, Wireless Operator, Teleprinter Operator, Telephonist, TRC Operator and lately TCO and TCC.

The “Sparks” Badge

Since the earliest days of the Service, our Trade was the only one (and probably still is) to be warranted a Trade Badge.

The reason behind it is maybe strange in this day and age but when granted it was a different time. At that time, only NCOs were permitted to approach and talk directly with a Commissioned Officer. What then, the poorly airman who had a message to impart that the enemy were at the front gate?!

The badge therefore was granted (19th September 1918 – AMO 1066) in order that the ‘message always got through’!

Our uniqueness has always been a source of pride on our arm but it never stopped the SWO from shouting at you!

TG11 Memorial at the NMA Fund

The Association has begun the process of raising funds to design, create, install and maintain a permanent memorial to members of the RAF Trade Group 11 (Ground Signalling) who gave their lives in times of conflict.

Although in its early stages, the estimated cost for this project is £20,000, as large oaks from little acorns grow, every penny you can donate is most gratefully received.

Membership

Membership of the Official TG11 Association is free and is only open to ex RAF Trade Group 11 personnel (Ground Signalling, see below for criteria).
You MUST be a member of the TG11 Association via the website for inclusion on this Facebook Group.”

Reunions

Reunions are held every year and are always a great success. Attendance is high and the camaraderie superb.

Do not be frightened by “I‘ll not know anybody…” by the time the weekend is over you will have made many new friends for the next one!

Registration requests are normally dealt with in a couple of days.

Once access is approved, you will have access to the history of the trade, RAF Cosford and other information.
Also you will be able to see if any of your old friends are members as well, and contact them if they are. Information on the up and coming reunion is available.
